Cellhire has been recognised with the “Best Tech Innovation in Live Production” award at the 2024 Broadcast Tech Awards. The entry highlighted Cellhire's collaboration with the BBC to deliver an innovative “Count Cam” solution, enabling seamless, real-time coverage from 369 vote-counting locations during the 2024 UK General Election.
The Broadcast Tech Awards honour exceptional teams and technologies driving forward the most outstanding broadcast productions of the year.
Tony Guerion, CEO of Cellhire, remarked, “The award is a testament to our team’s commitment to innovation and delivering solutions that meet customers’ needs. During the general election, our Count Cam offering demonstrated Cellhire’s IoT connectivity capabilities for delivering reliable, scalable services for critically important live broadcasts.”
Count Cam: revolutionising live election coverage
The Count Cam kits combined adapted iPhones, extended battery packs, and tripods, but the real innovation was in the IoT multi-network SIM cards. These SIMs allowed the device to seamlessly connect to all four UK mobile networks, ensuring uninterrupted streaming from even the most remote vote-counting locations. The kits were designed for simplicity, with pre-installed apps and user-friendly features for rapid deployment and efficient operation.
“A great solution for something so important, an innovative but simplified approach with great scalability.” - Award judges
“With the BBC, we set a new standard for live election coverage, providing an unprecedented level of transparency,” Guerion added. “This award underscores how technology can enhance accessibility and reliability in live broadcasting, especially for events as critical as a general election.”
Another award-winning year for Cellhire
The Broadcast Tech Award is Cellhire’s second major accolade in 2024, following their recognition as Best Wireless Connectivity Provider at the 2024 Comms Business Awards. This previous award highlighted the company’s IoT connectivity solutions across diverse industries, including security, events, and marine.
Guerion concluded, “Cellhire’s IoT connectivity is now integral to a growing range of industries and applications. Customers rely on us to deliver robust, scalable solutions for high-stakes environments where reliability is non-negotiable.”
